Once again it is proven that self-righteousness inherited, while righteousness is not to be found. I was rather disappointed that god didn’t strike Oral Roberts dead during that unsuccessful self-aggrandizing fundraising campaign. If anybody ever deserved to be struck dead for pretending to speak the word of god, it was certainly Oral Roberts.
I guess that just proved that there is no god.

I haven’t read the New Yorker article, and I don’t know if I will, so I can only comment on what I have read in this blog entry.
The question is, how likely is it that Bush thinks god told him to invade Afghanistan? If Bush not only believes that is true but is willing to speak to others about it, then quite possibly he also believes the same thing about invading Iran.
Discussion seems to be swirling around the fact that the source seems to be a senior Palestinian official, who would of course have to be lying. This therefore means that our very own Prez would not believe such an insane thing. Besides, everyone knows he never lies…don’t they?
The reason I believe this to be true is because the reason Bush ran for President in the first place is that GOD TOLD HIM TO. He has declared this to the applause of numerous right-wing crackpot fundamentalist audiences.
Doesn’t that make you feel safer?

Ok. What we have here is a question that seems to have an incorrect answer.
The guy asks what to do about the fact that his ex-wife has taken his daughter to a flaming fundamentalist church her whole life, and now the daughter is convinced he’s going to hell. What does the “expert” helpfully suggest? That he start attending church with her, some time after which he can say he gave it an honest try and realizes it’s still not for him.
Let’s take a step back. The cause of the problem is that this guy has been willing to abdicate his responsibility in the religiously-orientated upbringing of this child. He has allowed his ex-wife to indoctrinate her with all kinds of fucking religious crap, and now, surprise, she believes it.
It’s time for the non-religious to stand up for what they believe in. We are under no obligation to teach our unchurched children about multiple religions in order to allow them to choose from the menu or craft one of their own. Would a catholic or a muslim do that? Absolutely not!
But Atheists have somehow been brainwashed into thinking that only believers have the right to pass on their religious orientation to their kids. Nope. That’s bullshit.
Stand up for what you believe in (or don’t believe in, as the case may be). Teach your children what and why. If you don’t know yourself, do some reading. Don’t let somebody else brainwash your kid because they think it’s good for both of you. It’s not.

One thing the maker of this video missed when saying that the bible declares that millions of “innocent” Americans should be put to death is that according to the bible, they are not innocent. They are guilty, and thus deserving of death.
